For students wondering what to bring to residence and what to leave at home we highly recommend checking out the following link: https://www.uottawa.ca/housing/current-residents/bring. It has lots of valuable information for example a toaster you should leave at home, but a kettle would be good to have.

For students wondering if there is a curfew for when you can enter/leave residence, the answer is no. All students should however carry their residence keys with them at all times, so that they can ensure that they are able to enter their own building by using their tap card to enter when the main door is locked.

For students wondering about residence’s guest policies – we are continuing to follow public health guidelines. This academic year, students were permitted to host two guests in their space from the same residence building. However, if public guidelines do not permit guests, we may need to restrict guest privileges at that time, until we are permitted to do so again.

For students wondering about security in the building, both student-staff and security personnel are present in the buildings throughout the evenings and nights. Our Community Advisors are on-call overnight, and can support you if you have concerns or need assistance. Often times, we have security personnel stationed at our residence entryways, to help with access control and security. Students will only have access to their own residence buildings, and are encouraged to carry their residence keys with them at all times. Additionally, Protection Services is available for both residence students as well as students throughout campus.

For students wondering about how you can spruce up your residence room, you are asked to not permanently damage the walls with nails or screws, and are instead encouraged to use removal tabs or sticky tabs for posters, fairy lights, etc. We also encourage you to wait and see your space before purchasing too many goods, so that you aren’t over-buying! You are also permitted to move your furniture around and make the space your own.
